Welcome to my website!!! To be honest, it is quite surreal having my own ‘webpage’, I mean looking back to when I was in school, I had to go to the school library or a friends house to use the internet because my Mum and I just didn’t have to money to afford internet, ironically we could never afford Subscription Television either and I got my first CD player at about 16!
Yet somehow between then and now I have found love and passion in DJing which was followed by a compilation album called Neon essential 2 where I teamed up with the Talented Danish DJ Don Diablo and one of Australia’s finest Grant Smilie; I now live on Subscription Television working for both MTV and FOX8 plus had the luxury of working on the Top Model Finale; Broadcasting from the Vancouver winter Olympics and hosting the Mardi Gras Coverage!! Talk about being ridiculously blessed and lucky.
Now the internet is part of my day to day life and I have my own website (which makes me giddy) and good old twitter with all my followers which spins my head around and around like that creepy girl from the Exorcist… but in a fun non creepy way… So I guess for everything I didn’t have growing up, I have made up for in just these last 2 years alone… I don’t know who exactly to thank for this, but I know if I attempted to write a list it would fill pages and pages… However I am exceptionally thankful every single day.
I want this site to be somewhere that people can come and read about where my upcoming gigs will be, what I have been up to, see my latest news, and most importantly be an outlet and platform where I can give something back to my loyal, beautiful and always supportive fans.
This site isn’t for me, ( I wake up with this boofy haired head everyday). It is for you guys, so please if you have things you would like to know, or ideas of what you would like to be included – let me know…
Growing up, my Mum and I travelled Australia like gypsies, Mum left my Dad when I was 1, things were not safe at home so to get out she stole the TV and pawned it to buy us a plane ticket out of there! We slept on couches, in family members houses and in every regional town you can imagine… We settled in a tiny house in Gippsland, Churchill, where Mum attended Monash Uni, and I spent my days on her lap or in class just ‘chillin’ until I they opened ‘poo corner’ an area for the kids to hang. I could pretty much claim I got my Arts degree at 8 haha.
Finally we moved to Melbourne to stay at my Grandma Dierdres, we had a bedroom, a small bedroom where my Mum, myself and our kitten little puss who we had rescued from a bin in the rain in Churchill, however our second week in Melbourne she was hit by a car ☹
I shared a bed with Mum till I was about 10, we were a team always fighting to get the best out of life with the very little we had… because of that fight and drive she became a successful artist and teacher and I learnt from her to never give up. So I thank her for that and I thank Jesus or the universe or whoever that strong spirit is for guiding us through tough times. I lived off centrelink (yep, I filled out those job forms and waited in those lines) till I got my first job. I was bullied in school severely, suffered depression and still stayed till the end to complete my V.C.E.
I modelled and used that money to travel the world and when I got back I worked as a door bitch at the Evelyn in Brunswick Street, fulltime at UCMS as a teamleader for the call centre for Optus haha “Hi this is Ruby how can I help you”, and also studied at the Victorian College of the Arts 2 nights a week, I worked 60 hours a week.
This all changed the day I auditioned for MTV and a few longggggg weeks later I got ‘that call’ I had the job, had to move to Sydney in 3 weeks… and well… the rest is history.
I hope my story can inspire people who have been or are going through tough times… Because after meeting so many people in this industry I can tell you, most of us are fighters not spoon fed.
The biggest stars worked the hardest.
You CAN do it. There IS hope. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.
Love you.
